The Eastern Cape
province reflects one of the highest poverty statistics in the
country. A great deal of development work is needed to transform the region into
a hub for economic growth and improved life quality. The people of the
region are keen to change their environments and their personal circumstances,
enabling community partnerships that have the foundations for success. However,
with the challenges experienced by the Eastern Cape provincial government, the
vast size of the province and its legacy of inequality and marginalisation, the
prospects for the poor appear dismal. Civil society organisations may
play a crucial role in enabling development opportunities by working with poor,
rural communities to address some of their difficulties and challenges.
PASCaP's work in the Eastern Cape currently focuses on 3 regions:
the Hewu region (30km south of Queenstown) which encompasses Whittlesea, SADA and surrounds
Queenstown including Ezibeleni, Lady Frere, and Engcobo
