The story of the perseverance of a region. In 2002... Overcoming the constraints of poverty and deprivation is in itself riddled with many challenges. Looking beyond one's immediate needs to those of the community is not achieved by many. However, the after school facilitators trained by PASCaP in 2002 were extraordinary women and men who understood the need to protect and develop their children and youth, and who were prepared to make many sacrifices to achieve this goal. It was therefore a major achievement when the following after school centres were established in 2002:
In 2006... Khanyisa, Eyethu and Dokasi form the core group of after school centres that participate in the After School Care Centres Support project in George. They provide a training ground for additional unemployed women and youth and at the start of 2006 an additional 3 after school centres are in the planning stages. In April 2006, the following after school centres are in the process of developing the organisational infrastructure to deliver services to children and youth, and to align their operations to be registered as places of care.
The After School Care Centres Support project will not only provide coaching and training, but also a range of educational and administrative resources to help each centre become established and formalised. To make a contribution to any of these projects, please e-mail: info@pascap.org.za. |
