Learning Programmes

All programmes are adapted to meet specific community needs and to be context-relevant.

Learning programmes may also be offered to enable learners to achieve accreditation. This means that an unemployed person who is completing a learning or development programme may work towards gaining nationally recognised credits which may be used towards a qualification or enable access to a wider range of employment opportunities. Also, should learners wish to or gain access to a non-accredited course, and achieve competence only after its completion, PASCaP offers the option of applying for recognition of prior learning. Registered assessors are able to assist and guide learners to meet the accreditation requirements through practical assessment of work as well as the submission of written evidence of learning.

Currently, the following learning programmes are offered:

Financial Management

In order to comply with legislation and reporting requirements, effective financial management is often a significant challenge as many project workers do not previous experience in working with formal budgets and accounting processes. PASCaP therefore has a programme to assist projects in aligning their operations so that they are able to prepare basic financial statements and are able to submit their records for annual external auditing.

Strategic planning

Facilitating the sustainability of after school projects requires an understanding of short, medium and long terms planning and development processes. The Strategic Planning learning programme assists after school project managers to map the growth of their own projects, and to work on their strategic strengths and weaknesses in order to attain a higher level of sustainability and to improve their service delivery in the community.

Foundations of entrepreneurship

Owing to the low skills and high unemployment levels, entrepreneurship is a critical opportunity for many young people. This foundation course provides a practical learning format and is able to provide training in a range of manufacturing skills, costing and marketing. When support is available, emerging entrepreneurs are assisted with start up materials and equipment. This course is also available to after school facilitators who wish to raise income for their projects, and who also wish to offer entrepreneurship programmes in their communities as part of their services.
