The emerging projects in Prince Albert united under 2 associations, each incorporating 2 project sites or satellites targeting different age groups.

In Prince Albert itself, the 2 projects that form part of the Prince Albert After School and Youth Project are:

  1. Takalani
  2. Bambino

In Leeu Gamka, 90 minutes from Prince Albert, the 2 projects that form part of the Leeu Gamka After School and Youth Association are:

  1. Leeu Gamka Youth Project
  2. Leeu Gamka After School Project

TAKALANI

Venue:

Squatter Camp, Prince Albert

Project Manager:

Annie Pieterse

Assistants:

Delia Moos, Hester Malan

Project Status: They have received donations of appliances and building materials for a structure in the informal settlement area. The demarcation poles have already been erected. They are, however, still awaiting approval from the municipality. The project team has also done some research to ascertain how many children are living in the squatter area, as well as the age distribution. They have approached the families in the community and informed them of the centre. A community action committee which includes key leaders such as Cyril Africa, the local minister, and Frank Francis has been playing an active role in supporting the project and mobilising resources  for the establishment of the building.

Project Manager:

Sarie Lekay

Assistant:

Jowene Tieties

Project Status: This project was established in 2001 with about 20 children. The venue is secure at the creche and an additional classroom may be allocated to them. The project has received letters of support from the local councillor and from the creche giving them access to the classrooms.

LEEU GAMKA YOUTH PROJECT

Venue:

Leeu Gamka Primary School, Granatbos Street, Leeu Gamka, 9650

Project Manager:

Maria Lottering

Assistants:

Andre McKay, Cherryl Lottering, Janine Lottering

Project Status: This is the first youth project in Leeu Gamka. Although this project was established in 2001, they had some disappointments with finding a venue but have now secured a classroom at the primary school. Owing to the physical isolation of Leeu Gamka, this project will require support with resources and ongoing development.
