Background information

PASCaP facilitators learnt to make soap in 2002 in order to:

1. raise funds for the organisation's activities
2. teach income-generating skills to unemployed youth and parents
3. promote entrepreneurship and economic development
4. promote an integrated approach to after school youth development and sustainability.

The initial soap-making activities focused on cold process soap-making using olive oil as a base.  The product range then expanded to bath salts, glycerine soap, skin moisturisers, skin polishers and towels.

In 2005, communities expressed the need to make basic household cleaners as a supplement to the soap manufacture. With research and development, PASCaP launched 4 household detergent manufacturing projects in Masiphumelele in Fish Hoek, New Crossroads, Langa and Mbekweni in Wellington. Thereafter the project was re-designed into Project Nonkqubela, a 3-year poverty alleviation programme incorporating manufacturing, entrepreneurship training and support.

Body products

Olive oil hand made soap (60g and 100g bars) - lavender, tea tree, rosemary, geranium, ginger, peppermint, lemon, orange, rooibos, als, ylang ylang, chamomile, chocolate. R10 for 100g bar, R6 for a 600g bar!

Glycerine soap (any size from 20g to lkg bars) - sandalwood, peppermint, rooibos, oranges and sunshine, apple, lavender, tea tree, ylang ylang, geranium, love tea (a blend of sandalwood, ylang ylang and rooibos), little mermaid (with glitter), midnight bliss (with lavender), and any other blend your heart and skin desires. R10 per 100g bar!

Jelly soap (450g) - in fresh forest, lavender and tea tree. A fun bath soap to splash like a whale for children of all ages. Only R20!

Soap mousse (150g) - in Moroccan spa, mediterranean and girl power. Very aromatic, very soothing, very gentle and ultra luxurious. R30!

Therapy soaks - sea salt crystals in russian, english and french lavender, tea tree, ylang ylang, peppermint, rose, immune boost (for colds and flu). R30 per 250g

Skin polishers - with ylang ylang and lavender, sweet almond oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil and jojoba oil. The ultimate pamper and skin softener! R35 for 250g

Body butter - rich shea butter with olive oil, grapeseed oil, vitamin e, glycerine, sweet almond and jojoba oils in lavender, rooibos, chamomile and geranium. R35 for 250g

Body lotion - rich in cocoa butter with olive oil, grapeseed oil, vitamin e, glycerine, sweet almond and jojoba oils in lavender, chamomile, ylang ylang and geranium. R30 per 200ml

Shower gel - skin smoothing and luxurious in lavender, sandalwood, rooibos, neroli, mediterranean and fresh zephyr. R25 for sandalwood, all others R20 per 200ml

Liquid soap - lavender, tea tree, geranium in a pump 300ml bottle or a 200ml squeeze bottle. R30 for the pump bottle, R20 for the squeeze
